Canada Day was a little different this year. The biggest game changer of course was being parents. We are usually part of a huge Canada Day tournament that our friends throw (this was the 8th year!) involving hilarious (and sometimes inappropriate) team names, costumes and kegs. Last year I attended as an audience member rather than a participant because I was pregnant with Olivia and this year the three of us would attend all dressed up just to mingle. Unfortunately Strep throat plagued our home. It was awful!
Poor Beau had taken off a vacation day both before and after the long weekend to extend his time off to finish our basement renos and he got hit hard. Spending three of the days in bed and the remainder two struggling. I held down the fort and tried to shield Olivia and myself from the virus (she has just recently gotten over the terrible Roseola!) while attempting to do some activities to start some family traditions.
While being totally under the weather, Beau was a huge sport and crawled out of bed so we could document Olivia’s very first Canada Day in our matching gear (I am such a sucker for all things themed and dressed up ESPECIALLY if it’s matching!) photographed by the very talented Laura Joy from Laura Joy Photography. Unfortunately, we all missed out on going to Promenade Days but Olivia and I still enjoyed ourselves at a family Canada Day pool party pot luck and visiting family. We will just have to make up for it next year!
What traditions do you have for Canada Day?
