Executing a theme within a special event is a passion of mine and it was no exception that Olivia’s first birthday had every ounce of my creative heart. I wanted something different, something that hasn’t been seen before (and maybe even accomplished before) so naturally I started brainstorming aloud with Beau. After literally one second of sharing some ideas of mine HE mentioned a Babybel party for our baby Belle. From that moment, I was sold and began to form my vision.
From almost the beginning “Beau” and I have called each other Beau (his name is actually Eric) and Belle. I forget how it happened as it was just so natural but I believe I started calling him my Beau due to his French background and he kept rebutting with Belle. So when our baby girl was born she immediately inherited Baby Belle (aka mini me) as one of her nicknames. So when Eric mentioned the BabyBel cheese as a theme I went straight to work!
I first connected with PR of BabyBel to see if they had anything marketing related for me to use. Luckily they sent 5 helium balloons, some cheese coupons and a mini lunch pail to work with. The rest I bought or made. I knew I wanted to stick with the traditional red packaging for the colour scheme so everything was red and gold(instead of the yellow). I must stress that this is no way a sponsored birthday party.
I created the invitation in Apple Pages using as many cheese puns as I could come up with. A matching Facebook banner was also created for the event cover photo.
Obviously the cake HAD to be a big Babybel but honestly the baker went above and beyond. I sketched my vision in Apple Pages, sent it to her and received this masterpiece! Honestly, it was better than I could have imagined. Oh, and we went with banana flavour inside.
The main decor consisted of this dessert table with very sparkly gold sequin material used as tablecloth and backdrop (from Diamond Event Decor), BabyBel balloons given to me by the company, gold helium balloons I bought, a big ‘Olivia Churns One’ sign I made along with homemade bunting banner in the shape of babybel’s with a number one in the middle and of course the fabulous cake.
Creative I am but baker I am not, so this was the naked cake I baked for Olivia’s cake smash cake. Luckily they naturally have a messy look to them but it definitely isn’t my forte. It didn’t help that I used a healthy recipe consisting mostly of banana which is so sticky and doesn’t grow at all! This was three different batches put together with a homemade cream cheese icing. The beautiful greenery is from my favourite florist Sharon (who owns Jo Dee’s). She always brings my exact vision to life!
I incorporated Babybel’s into a cute balloon thanks to Pinterest.
No surprise, I had my signature DIY water bottle sleeves to match the theme.
For Olivia’s outfit I purchased a plain white dress and jazzed it up with Cricut cut letters to make ONE as well as little BabyBel inspired name circles I made on the computer.
Favours were little packets of Babybel cheeses marked with a little image I created that said “Thank you” instead of the company name. They were held in the actual Babybel container used in grocery stores.
Olivia was seriously spoiled but I’m not sure who had more fun, her or her mama 🙂
I will share her cake smash in a separate post along with the healthy cake recipe I used.
