The morning of our wedding day was not what I had imagined. I imagined it being chaotic, frantic and just spending the day rushing around like chickens with our heads cut off. I actually couldn’t grasp that I didn’t feel like pure mayhem! It was only about thirty minutes or less before hair was scheduled to arrive that I was rolling out of bed. I was soon greeted with excitement from my bridesmaids who had brought me a “bride” labelled Starbucks coffee as well as more roses than I could count from the dashing Groom to be. This was it; the big day!
We spent the morning getting ready, taking photos and just spending time together. The morning was actually really calm in regards to “to do lists” and all I had to concentrate on was my excitement and of course, my nervousness for the weather (unbeknownst to me the bridesmaids and wedding planner Katie, were putting out fires left right and centre). With all my being I wanted an outdoor ceremony so I was on pins and needles just praying the weather held off just for the ceremony (more on that later).
Olivia wore a custom made dress. I really wanted her top to be the matching rose gold sequin to the bridesmaids but knew that her arms would be so uncomfortable against the fabric. So I went with a lace bodice to match my top with little cap sleeves to match the bridesmaids. Of course, she had to have the big tulle skirt. She was so darling!
My bridesmaids wore a rosegold floor length gown with sequins from head to toe. Their dresses were a big part of the take-off to my glitter wedding theme. Their hair, accessories and shoes were at their choosing.
All the dresses were hung on custom engraved wood hangers by the awesome Darkhorse Engraving. They add such a personal touch! My favourite is of course Olivia’s.
The boys wore charcoal grey suits, with matching vests and ties as well as brown shoes.
I’d say my hair was a classic old hollywood look. Large loose curls and an oversized brooch on one side. I actually wasn’t sure what approach I was going to take for hair and was lucky to have such an understanding hairdresser. Chantal from Rush Hair Studio tried two looks for me on my trial (one up and one down) and then again another one when I got my hair coloured by her a week or so before the wedding. It turned out exactly as I had envisioned.
With makeup I wanted to try something new, something bold. I don’t wear much makeup (I don’t even own foundation) and am pretty much clueless in this department. So I tried a bold option and let’s just say my bridesmaids still laugh at the photos I took of the results. This is when I basically ran to Robin Gibbons and begged her to fit me in her booked wedding schedule. She had done my makeup many times before and I’ve always been so happy. Thank god she worked some magic and squeezed us in!
There are so many highlights to this morning that I’ll just list some:
*Beau scattered his wedding gifts to me throughout the morning and each one was equipped with a heartfelt note that I’ll forever cherish.
*Having Olivia be present and get ready with me is so special.
*Feeling that my bridesmaids were treating my wedding day as just a special day to them as to me, is an indescribable feeling; I’ll never forget it.
*My cousin busted out a speech she had written in the form of a Backstreet Boy song she sang. It was epic!
*My mom was on cloud nine just running around busily making sure everything was perfect.
*The boys stopped at the house and greeted the bridesmaids during their golf game.
*The joy that came with each person opening their wedding day present from us.
*When my little brother told me I looked beautiful.
*The laughs, the advice, the hugs, the excitement and love you feel for a day you’ve imagined almost all your life.
*All the feelings.
We managed to get some bridesmaids photos in the yard and out front before we hopped into the limo to the ceremony…. only about 15 minutes past ceremony schedule 🙂
