Here we are 14 weeks and 3 days into this pregnancy and we know the gender of our little bundle (the results were actually in during our 13th week). How lucky are we!? I never actually made it to the 20+ week where you find out the gender with Liam (our first pregnancy which you can read a little about here , here and here) and the anticipation was killing me! I was grateful I didn’t have to wait that long this time around. I’m definitely the kind of girl who HAS to know. So when we had the opportunity to find out so early, I ran with it (literally from the mailbox and back ;)).
I’ve gotten the question very often of how we are able to know so early. Well, simply put, this pregnancy we were eligible for different medical tests (and a little extra monitoring) and through the testing (which it’s purpose is to look at baby’s development) can actually determine what baby’s gender is with 99% accuracy during the process. From the results paperwork I received it looks like it pulls gender via cell retrieval and chromosome line ups. My doctor calls this test magic and says it’s so scientifically complicated that she can’t really wrap her head around it herself and said the medical professionals who specialize in it can’t really explain it to her in a comprehendible manner. She advised to not ask questions and just go for it 😉 Oh, and most importantly, baby seems to be doing great!
After the long weekend my mom asked if the results were in so I went to the mailbox to see (I had to get to them first as I’m sure Beau would probably lack the self control); and there they were! One big envelope stating it was safe to open with two smaller ones; one with the medical results and one with the gender reveal! I immediately notified my best girlfriend who would be putting together the beautiful reveal box you see in the images and she was at my house within 15 minutes to whiz away the special news. We had to wait 6 DAYS before our gender reveal party. Let me tell you, the build up of anticipation was SO very worth it.
I cannot even begin to describe the emotion of standing under the unopened box that held the secret of my child’s gender (you can see some of my emotions in the awesome photographs taken by Lauren Barnard Photography) . Nor can I describe in any sentence or paragraph the emotions that flooded my body as PINK confetti and balloons fell to the ground. IT’S A GIRL!!! Out of body experience. Although in my heart I knew it was a girl (I seem to get 100% of my gender guesses for others wrong but both pregnancies I without a doubt knew the gender), seeing the confirmation was magic. My mother’s reaction was also priceless (and luckily caught on video). I absolutely highly recommend you do something extra special to find out the gender. It doesn’t have to be a “Gender Reveal Party” like we chose (we honestly just had our family and closest friends invited) but just having a special moment between new mommy and daddy would do the trick. Getting a photographer is extra fun as the moment happens in a flash and it’s so magical being able to look at the experience.
It certainly looks like I can start purchasing all the absolutely adorable flamingo things that I keep eyeing everywhere!
Were you right?
